How it works
Selling
- Sign in with your email, add photos, a title and a price, and choose a set price or an auction (1, 3, 5 or 7 days).
- Connect your own Square account once. Buyers pay you through Square's checkout, and the money goes to your Square account, not to us.
- Thames Coast takes a small percentage of each sale. Square takes it out automatically at checkout. Square also charges its normal card fee. Listing is free.
- You can list up to 15 items a day.
Buying now
- Tap Buy now and you go straight to the seller's Square checkout.
- The item is held for you for 2 hours. Don't pay in that time and it goes back up for sale. You can also release it yourself.
Auctions
- Enter the most you'd pay. We bid for you one step at a time, only as much as it takes to stay ahead, up to your max. Nobody sees your max.
- A bid is a promise to buy at that price if you win.
- A bid in the last 2 minutes adds 2 minutes to the clock, so nobody wins by sniping.
- When it ends, the winner gets an email with a pay link and 48 hours to pay the seller through Square.
- Miss the 48 hours and the item goes to the next highest bidder, and you get a strike. 2 strikes and bidding is switched off on your account.
- If you're offered an item as the next bidder and you don't want it, just ignore the email. That's never a strike.
After you pay
- Buyer and seller each get the other's email to set up pickup or shipping.
- Meet somewhere public and busy, in daylight. A police station parking lot is ideal: see the meetup spots below.
- Never pay outside this site's Square checkout, and never pay for something you'll only get later from someone you haven't met.
- Returns and refunds are between you and the seller. Sellers refund from their own Square dashboard.
- Once you're paid up, rate the seller from your order page.
Meetup spots
The parking lot outside each police station around here. Pick one when you set up a pickup. Groton Town is the one we know marked exchange spots; the others are a public lot outside the station, so meet in daylight either way.
